Wheeling, W.Va. – The Health Plan, a not-for-profit community health organization, with offices in St. Clairsville and Massillon, Ohio and Charleston and Morgantown,W.Va., today announced it will be moving its corporate headquarters from St. Clairsville, Ohio to downtown Wheeling, W.Va. Currently, The Health Plan employs over 300 people in its corporate headquarters and a total of 400+ employees in all of its four offices.

“The Health Plan was established in 1979 as a West Virginia corporation and has remained so for the past 36 years. I am extremely proud to say — we are coming home to West Virginia — as one of the most financially stable not-for-profit managed care organizations in the country. We couldn’t be more pleased to relocate our corporate headquarters back to Wheeling along with our over 300 employees,” said Jim Pennington, president & CEO, The Health Plan.

The Health Plan, working in concert with the State of West Virginia, the City of Wheeling and the Regional Economic Development (RED) Partnership, will break ground in the spring of 2016 on a 4-story, 53,000 square foot building in downtown Wheeling. Construction is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2017.

“This project would not have come to fruition without the excellent partnership forged between The Health Plan, the State of West Virginia, the City of Wheeling, and RED. I commend Gov. Tomblin, Wheeling Mayor McKenzie and Don Rigby, RED executive director, and the RED Board of Directors for their efforts on behalf of their respective constituencies to bring jobs and economic growth to the State of West Virginia and the City of Wheeling,” noted Pennington.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and Senate President Bill Cole attended the announcement.  “We have worked hard to lower taxes and make West Virginia more attractive top employers. I’m pleased to welcome The Health Plan home to West Virginia,” Gov. Tomblin said. “This project has been a true team effort, and I know this new headquarters will have a tremendous impact on the local economy and Wheeling Central Business District.”

“I’m excited to join with other leaders in Wheeling to welcome The Health Plan to West Virginia,” Senate President William P. Cole III, said. “I am confident that the partnership continues to be a positive and productive relationship for years to come.”
