The Wheeling Nailers
Wheeling is proud to be home to the Wheeling Nailers, a professional ice hockey team in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) affiliated with the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Nailers, based at WesBanco Arena, boast a rich history, being the oldest surviving minor league franchise below the American Hockey League (AHL), and have earned multiple championships, including 2 regular season titles, 3 division championships, 2 conference championships, and a recent appearance in the Kelly Cup Finals.

West Virginia Independence Hall
Governor Pierpont utilized this building as his office when the "Restored Government of Virginia" was in effect. From his office's east window, he sent a telegram to President Lincoln, urging him to approve the bill that would enable West Virginia's statehood. In December 1862, President Lincoln received the statehood bill, signing it into law on December 31, which ultimately led to West Virginia becoming a state on June 20, 1863.

Wheeling Ohio County Airport, a public airport, serves the Wheeling and Ohio County area in West Virginia. Located eight miles northeast of downtown Wheeling, it is owned by the Ohio County Commission. The airport spans 1,000 acres and features two asphalt runways: Runway 3/21 measures 5,002 by 150 feet and Runway 16/34 is 4,499 by 150 feet.
